It's certainly winter here in the mountains. Several feet of snow has fallen the last few....omg I am talking weather. Cat slap is required.

Broke down this last week and joined Twitter. Yes, I am a twit-for-brains. Blame boredom, blame curiosity, blame the double espresso with cocoa. I shudder to think what I would have done if I had added Kahlua. I also, and am woefully embarrassed about this, have become very political. I know, I know, I broke a solemn vow. But Republicans are driving me absolutely INSANE. They are rabid, over the top....oops, see what I mean? Twitter is fascinating, even if it means shoveling loads of s*t to find that corn kernel of truth, politics not so much. Political joking aside (and I do a LOT of them) the old saw holds, "forewarned is forearmed."

IN OTHER NEWS: only four asthma attacks this month. They are a lot more severe than normal, but there are less of them. The COPD seems to not be trying to kill me this month, but that WILL change. No trips to the doc this month, I can actually follow a few simple plans through to fruition without getting too bolluxed up, and I've managed two short jaunts into the woods. YAY! Not bad for a woman docs gave ten years fifteen years ago. Something to be said for genetics...I got mammas stubborns ::grins::

An interesting ethic question. I am on the side of "Yes, it is.", at least in the case of minor children. But parents alone should not be held accountable alone in the case of morbidly obese children. Over one third of a childs' life is lived AWAY from home and parents. Caregivers and schools must also be held accountable for not dealing with morbid obesity.

For the last few months my muse and I have not been on speaking terms. The muse claimed I was too controlling and manipulative, I felt it was unreliable.

So I took a break with Sims 2 and books (my library is together now woot!) and only a few days ago approached my muse for a truce. I agreed to loosen up and let the muse have more control and she....well....agreed to show up.

It's working out well, yep yep.

It was nice during this time to get the library together. It's a large room, my desk is in a corner and books all along one wall. Need more shelves, really, There are about fifty books in a pile on the floor.

One big uh oh..somehow the data chord for my lookbook got broke :-(

Went through a bit of a morose patch this week. Blame it on Ray Bradbury. It all started when reading "Martian Chronicles" on my LookBook. We met the Martians and they were us...like HELL. Do you realize his story took place in the 1990's initially? The future, folks, has come to pass.

And here we are, making remakes of remade movies, listening to covers of old songs and eating foods whose ingredients you don't want to know. Nothing is new under old sol, and why? Because the human race has become so self centered, self involved and GREEDY that real progress, real invention, is not even possible any more. America is busy converting it's citizens to a slave class, the Middle East is....Middle East....poor Japan got knocked on it's collective ass and the rest of the world is business as usual.

The world needs to wake the hell up. Everything has become an excuse to exploit, no one is working toward any goals anymore....except to bleed each other dry. Sure people mouth platitudes, but platitudes are NOT progress.

OK it's hard to be a crusty old fart when an eagle is crying outside my window. She sounds as if she is enjoying the day, courting with her newly returned mate. So who am I to be bitching? If the day is good enough for an eagle it should be good enough for me.

Neo-Paganism and Holy Days

Neo-paganism is truly a religion of the individualist. Basically what we do is gather every religious text we can get our hands on, cross reference that information with every scientifically proven bit of data from proven "reliable" sources, then we decide what we believe of the whole mess. You will find as many variations in neo paganism as there are humans. Read Beliefnet for a concise, non Pegasus definition.

This is why we have no church, no real meeting place or point. This is also, I really must add, why most of us find public outpourings of religious fervor distateful, disgusting even. That's very harsh, but religion is a private choice, not an outlet for personal public attention. So I believe, you are welcome to disagree of course.

I've had almost fifty years to decide what I believe, and cannot distill all of this into a tidy one paragraph synopsis for you. I am a mono deist in part, with splashes of utilitarian paganism and some other things thrown in. I do believe in parallel species and dual myth-root. I do NOT believe in Edgar Cayce or Lost Lemuria, sorry.

Nor do I believe one should listen to Fox News unless one wants their IQ to suffer, but that is another post.

I believe you are probably no wiser about neo-paganism,if you didn't peek at Beliefnet. Sorry about that.

So...Holy days.

As with all aspects of neo-paganism, holy days are a matter of individual beliefs. It depends on which deity/deities are at the core of ones beliefs. At the core of my belief is one central non-gendered deity. I really celebrate one Holy Day, Christmas, because it is a family centered holy day. The rest do not really follow my core beliefs for one reason or another. I respect others rights to celebrate these days, of course. Life is free will, and free will is life.

Currently Reading: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Just Finished: The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer by Joyce Reardon.

I can highly recommend the second book. It is completely engrossing. Any resemblance to the Winchester Mansion is purely coincidental I am sure ;)

"Hill House" is one I have anticipated reading for years, did not find a copy until recently. Slow going so far, the characters haven't even made it through the first day. Still and all it is fascinating. Trying to figure out why all the characters already think the house is evil could be a full time occupation ha. I read "The Diary" in approximately three hours and intend doing so again.

Today it warmed up to 40 degrees with surprising rapidity. I only mention this because ALL the snow melted off the trees almost at once....I looked out the window and the entire forest was a cascade of shimmering water. It was amazingly lovely.

I hear Gov. Gregoire was given a very influential post in D.C. So for all of you who have ignored the frustration and anguish of us Washington Staters who cannot remove her leech-like grip on our state, you are now stuck with her also. I will entertain no complaints and when people try to oust her and can't, that will be my wild giggle in ringing in their ear. Welcome to OUR hell people.

Not currently gaming. I am a bit manic in my little pursuits, and currently my mania is art. As people who know me can attest these obsessions usually last two or three years. We all have a ways to go. This is not, btw, an apology. I NEVER am sorry for being myself. That would be stupid. Painting makes me very happy. Hopefully someday it will pay for itself, but I'm not seeing that yet.

Rose Petal Syrup

Rose Petal Syrup
4 cups rose petals
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
red food colouring (optional)
Simmer rose petals with water and sugar for one hour. Add drops of red food colouring to get desired colour. Strain through a fine seive. Bring back to the boil and put in hot sterilised bottles.
